Highlights: Missions Trip to Cagayan De Oro and Iligan

Today, I would like to share with you a basketball missions trip that I recently went on. I had the privilege to minister in the Northern Mindanao cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

It was the most impactful trip for me personally. I was one of the delegates of Team ACES (Athletes for Christ in Excellent Service) coached by Philippine Baskbetball Legend (PBA) legend Al Solis.

He invited a few guys from Manila to join forces with them to play an exhibition game against Soldiers for the Lord from the United States, made up of collegiate players and some guys who are looking to play professionally overseas.

The trip was sponsored by Full Gospel Businessmen from those cities. The hospitality was incredible.

We met some of the most amazing people. We stayed with Robin Lao and his family in their beautiful home. I really think Filipinos have this amazing gift of hospitality.

We had fellowship before the game on Friday. The ACES introduces to us and we spent time in worship and prayer.

The presence was God was so strong and really drove me tears. Seeing the passion and heart of these guys were inspiring. I shared a quick exhortation from 1 John 1:5-7 which says,

"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."

You could just feel the presence of the Lord.

The Xavier Gym was jam-packed with more than 3 thousand screaming fans. It was a great game that we ended up losing.

I played horribly, even air balled a lay-up. I guess you had to be there, but it was funny.

During half-time we introduced ourselves and each member of the team had something different to say. Most of the ACES players quoted some scriptures from the Word of God.

Every time they would speak God’s word the crowd would erupt, and I was asked to share my testimony at the end.

After the game the crowds bum-rushed both teams and we ended up taking pictures and signing autographs for another hour. What an amazing experience!

To cap the night off, we went to eat and then I joined the ACES team for fellowship. The guys from Manila were in a separate home, so I decided to stay a night with the team.

Everyone was so tired, but when I walked in their room, they were all on their bunk beds folding bible tracks, for the next day. They really knew their purpose and mission.

Then we had fellowship around midnight of sharing, word, and prayer.

I went home feeling blessed and inspired to continue on serving Him in whatever way I can.

Once again, it was a clear personal reminder that if we are willing to let God break our hearts for the lost, He will use each and every one of us in magnificent ways. I am grateful that my everyday activities are divinely ordered -- this makes me appreciate the significance of the things I do and the people I meet.

God has surrounded us with people we can only reach. When people see Jesus in us, we are giving "an answer to everyone who asks... to give the reason for the hope." (1 Peter 3:15)
